Oral Health Care You Can Trust

Preventive Care is the very foundation of a healthy mouth and smile. Preventive dental care from Murtaugh General and Cosmetic Dentistry is a comprehensive array of services designed to. . . well, prevent. . . painful, costly dental problems later in life.

Check-ups, Cleanings and Fluoride Treatment

Regular dental check-ups, cleanings and fluoride treatment are essential to your dental health. Because many dental conditions cause little or no physical pain, patients are often unaware they already have gum disease or decay. When you come in for your regularly scheduled check-up, we’re able to catch and correct dental issues early rather than after they turn into big dental problems. Dental check-ups at Murtaugh General and Cosmetic Dentistry in Bend include teeth cleaning, appropriate x-rays and fluoride treatment. We screen for gum disease at each dental check-up visit for adults. We’ll show you how to properly take care of your teeth at home and provide you with excellent preventive dental care in a gentle, attentive manner — from the moment you walk through the door to the moment you leave with a fresh, clean smile.

Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal treatment might sound unpleasant, but here in our dental office we work hard to make sure you get the least invasive periodontal treatment possible to keep your gums healthy and prevent tooth loss. If you already have periodontal disease, or gum disease, Drs. Jim and Ginny Murtaugh will help make sure it doesn’t get worse. Periodontal treatment includes periodontal cleaning techniques such as scaling and root planning to remove tartar and plaque on your teeth and their roots. If you have questions about periodontal treatment, call us today at (541) 389-2905.

Dental Sealants

Sealants can help prevent the development of cavities in teeth that might otherwise decay without the extra protection that sealants offer. Dental sealants are thin, tooth-colored coatings we apply to the chewing surface of your molars, especially deeply grooved molars, to protect them from the accumulation of food or bacteria that are hard to brush away. If you’re a little nervous about dental procedures, rest easy: dental sealant application is quick and painless.

Mouth Guards and Night Guards

Mouth guards and night guards help protect your teeth from wearing down as a result of teeth grinding or from damage that may occur during sporting activities. Patients who experience sleep apnea or other sleep disorders usually grind their teeth. Treatment with a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine will not stop the grinding, so it is wise to use a custom night guard to preserve the teeth and protect them from wear, which can be significant and destructive over time. During your routine dental check-up, we will be able to determine if you grind your teeth at night, and if so, can custom-fit a night guard to your mouth to protect your teeth from further damage.
